How To BE A MAN: Wk2
In response to the question for week 1, we began outlining some answers/ideas on how we differentiate between what we want and what God wants as decision-making men. The flow of this week’s discussion was as follows:
a.) Some things are clearly spoken about in Scripture. Other things are not. Regardless, it is crucial to know your Bible. Biblical world-views and foundations can help us navigate the situations that are less clear. Discernment requires us to know God’s Word and to know the Word-In-Flesh, Jesus.
b.) Maybe something to think about is that like God’s timing has a lot to do with how we can discern the right decision. You may make a decision about something you want and that is also within God’s will. If it doesn’t work out, then what can we say? Was it all you or all God? In fact, it could be both. The result of both is subject to God’s perfect timing.
c.) In navigating the above situation, there needs to be an honest self evaluation of your heart. Do you know Jesus? and therefore has the Holy Spirit been given to you? Use the community of faith/church/small group/fam to buttress your faith. You need to know there was a time that you accepted Christ, and your new heart should reflect in your life.
d.)If you’re not sure if something is what you want or what God wants and somebody tells you not to worry about it, because God is sovereign, how do you respond? As a group, we discussed that not worrying about something does not mean sitting on your a*&. Although, yes, God is sovereign and we should not worry, we should be striving to live in obedience in all we do. We know obedience by the Word and life of Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, and by the examples of older men who are strong in faith and love of Christ.
This week our meeting will consist of furthering this discussion, as well as presenting new questions regarding what it means to be a man.
